Generous Support

We wish to thank the following foundations for their generous support of the Greenwoods Foundation over the past year:

Country Grocer (formerly GVM)

The Lady Minto Hospital Auxiliary who has provided funding for an undergraduate registered nurse studying in the year 2008. This scholarship is the Katherine Chorney Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of Katherine Chorney, RN.

The Auxiliary has also donated funds towards the furnishing and equipment of the new dementia care unit.

The Local

The Salt Spring Island Foundation who provided funding towards new beds for the residents of Greenwoods Eldercare Society as well as funds to cover the purchase and installation of door lock key pads for the new dementia unit.

The Vandekerkhove Foundation who committed funds towards the therapeutic garden for the dementia unit and upgrading the courtyard for the residents.

The Victoria Foundation who, through the Ernest and Hazel Kay Fund, has granted funds towards feeding chairs and through the ALACS Fund gave monies towards the purchase of equipment required for the dementia care unit.

Through their Volunteer Improvement Program, the Imperial Oil Foundation has generously supported a variety of projects over the past several years. Most recently, they have supported the Residents' Assessment Instrument, a care planning tool which will be used to enhance the care of our residents.

Thrifty Foods Smile Card Fundraising program has provided support for a number of programmes and projects, including the purchase of new equipment for the new dementia care unit, support for art, music and therapy programmes and for the Meals on Wheels programme.

The Greenwoods Foundation exists with the sole purpose of supporting the Greenwoods Eldercare Society, which manages the long term care facility and the assisted living facility known as Braehaven. Greenwoods Eldercare Society also administers the Adult Daycare and Community Bathing programmes on Salt Spring Island, as well as the Meals on Wheels programme for all of the Southern Gulf Islands.

The staff, residents and their families and the members of the boards of Greenwoods Eldercare Society and the Greenwoods Foundation are all deeply grateful for the generous support of these foundations.
